Oakwood 26th invites Belgian artist Hennie Mahieu
Hennie is a young Belgian artist living and working in Bruges.
Her work is mostly abstract, with an obvious fascination for the colour red. Hennie describes her proces of creation as a dance, fluctuating in between the ‘letting go’ to ‘being at war’.
The vulnerability of the paper she often uses makes an interesting contrast to her strong and recognizable colours.
Her work is mixed media, but this will not ‘hit you in the face’. An attentive audience will notice the soft play with different materials and structures.

Oakwood 26th invites Belgian artist Alice Vanderschoot
Alice’s takes everyday objects and images out of their context with a sense of irony.
The bright colours of her sculptures add a new dimension to objects we may find in our everyday life. Alice boldly asks the viewer to take a moment and stand still. Her work often finds place in the interface of softness and brutality, where playfull colours and lines meet cold materials or metal constructions.
We can’t wait to share with you our new window! Adding up work of @alicevanderschoot @mlezi_atelier and @e.j.cornelis makes a view with tension, underneath a thin layer of ‘giggle and colour’.

Oakwood 26th invites Belgian artist Hans Borg for their window gallery in Bruges
Rusty colours for the month of March to warm up the street view at Eekhoutstraat, Bruges.
For the whole month of March 2022 you can find Hans Borg’s photograph together with Dieex Bitegets ‘Imana’s sculptures and my paintings in the Oakwood 26th window.
The two sculptures of Bitegets ‘Imana are from two different series. Left one is Mokonzi (bronze), and the right one is Shujaa (copper).
My painting ‘Blue face’, in the red wooden frame, is also part of the project Smallfish. Blue face is available in limited edition prints, each signed and numbered.

Oakwood 26th Invites
We’re excited to introduce to you Oakwood 26th, a cosy window art gallery at the heart of medieval Bruges, Belgium.
We are Dieex Bitegets ‘Imana and Esther Cornelis, respectively born in Goma (Congo) and Bruges (Belgium). Both being artists, we are currently living and working in Bruges.
We’ve always felt passionately about fellow artists connecting and supporting eachother, from the bottom up.
Already since some time now you can find our work at our window display. Maybe you’ve passed by and noticed we change our display every once in a while?

Starting from the month of March ‘22, we invite four external artists to Oakwood 26th.
We’ll create a whole new window display each month, together with @mlezi_atelier and @e.j.cornelis at Eekhoutstraat 26 8000 Brugge.
For the month of March, we start with inviting photographer Hans Borg.
Hans Borg is a Belgian autodidactic photographer. Borg has an eye for detail that finds beauty in the average and often raw Belgian harbor.
He translates his surroundings into unusual and almost unrecognizable images.
Pay us a visit starting the 1st of March, and see how the work of @mlezi_atelier @e.j.cornelis and @hans_borg interacts with eachother!

Group exposition at Guido Gezelle Museum Bruges
Cultuurcentrum Brugge invites five young artists for an exposition at Het Gezellehuis.
Curator Elke Desutter invites Esther Cornelis, Gilles Dedecker, Eva Dinneweth, Alice Vanderschoot and Frieke Verlé at this very unique site. This former house to the famous Belgian poet Guido Gezelle carries history in itself.
With this exposition, the artists strive to capture a certain idea or concept. What the observer sees is the end result of an artistic search and capturing their process. During the exposition the visitor is invited to take note of the different artistic processes that the artists their works go through.
